So, I have a freelancer max, caterpillar, cutlass blue, and starfarer. I feel like it's kinda redundant to have a freelancer and a cutlass so I am debating on melting down my Max to pick up the Hull C. On the same hand though, the caterpillar and Hull C are pretty close to each other as well. What are your thoughts on the matter? Also I have LTI on everything so its kind of a permanent ish decision (first world problems I know)

Tough to say man I am in the same boat. I have a 2 year anniversary caterpillar that I could melt and get the LTI hull C and have about 40$ left over. It kinda sucks that the info we have to go on for the caterpillar, and the freelancer is the older stuff. It is a shame that they didn't go more into detail about how the new cargo system will work with the older ships. The hull series looks to be exactly what you would want to haul as much cargo as you can but how safe is that cargo since its basically hanging out open in space? It also don't really say about jump drives or range the hull ships will have. It may be that the caterpillar and freelancer move less cargo but since its enclosed inside a ship hull you can move that cargo safer and for a longer range than the hull series ships.

I know the moment I melt the caterpillar they will start working on it again and make it even more awesome. I may still do it anyhow just so I can have a ship with LTI vs one that's 2 year insurance that I may be able to later on cross chassis upgrade back to a caterpillar. I also do like the look of the hull ships. I dunno what I would recommend for you since all your current ships already have LTI.

That's a hard call to make, Mikcoon!

The freelancer will probably have longer range, as well as better arms and armor. I wouldn't want to take the Hull C into lawless regions without an escort, I think that's what differentiated the hull series from the freelancer, caterpillar, and Taurus. The Hull series may have Way more cargo space (at least with the current stats) but you also need to hire an escort, which cuts your profits from the trade run.

I know that the original description of the Hull C was an honest trading vessel but that the owners tended to make them into smuggling ships.

Well the Q&A for the hull ships was enough for me, just melted my caterpillar and picked up a couple hull a's and also a b. The fact that the containers are all interchangeable for all ships is excellent. This means I can do some freelance work in a hull ship for someone who has their orion parked at a good mining spot. I could trade cargo containers with them to deliver their ore for a price so they can stay in place and keep mining. That opens up so much more game play options, its great that trading wont just be buying crap at a planet and selling it at another planet.

Well I'm a bit sad to see my Max go but I did it. Between the Q&A and the new cargo specs on the ships I think this is the best route to go. Gonna be a lot faster to replace my max hauling with the Hull-C than trying to buy a Hull-C using the Max.
