Movie: I actually watched Tangled earlier tonight. I've watched a few Disney flicks over the last few weeks and noticed I missed this entirely when it was released. Someone was talking to me about it when they were discussing taking their wife to see Frozen in theatres.

Opinion: I actually enjoyed it. It reminded me of the type of Disney movies I grew up with. The film itself is a take on the fairy tale "Rapunzel" from the Brothers Grimm. It's one of the better Disney films in the past few years, and I would say it may have been the film that reinvigorated the company. Since this film we've gotten Wreck-It-Ralph which I thought was a very good film, and Frozen just hit theatres to critical acclaim.

The story is funny and witty, and surprisingly lacking the usual pop-culture references that has been the norm in more recent Disney films. I feel it gives the film a more timeless approach, and reminded me of the Disney Renaissance era (1990-2000) when Disney was publishing their own twist on well-known stories.

If you have a girlfriend, kids, or just enjoy Disney flicks I suggest checking it out. You can rent it on Amazon Instant video for 3 bucks at the moment, or probably find it for cheap somewhere on the internet.

We will go with the scale out of 10 for scoring. You don't have to type as much as I did above, or even need to embed any video. Feel free to simply list what you watched and give it a rating. If you want to use the stars like I did, the codes for Gold and Silver are below.

um i haven't watched anything today but i watched the host again the other day. If you have not seen the host i strongly recommend you stop what you are doing and go watch it right now. I give it a 9/10, i would give it a 10/10 but i am taking one point away because that movie made me cry like a little bitch at some points... lol

I didnt watch anything today, however these are my last flicks the past week or two and my thoughts.

Gravity

This movie got a 8.3 on IMDB and I have no idea why. I understand the concept of submitting to fear in space but there were so many wtf moments on Sandra Bullocks astronaut role. Visually the movie was absolutely stunning putting alot of point-of-view perspectives in shots. Also long panoramic shots were done in the movie in abundance. I wouldn't recommend it for everyone, the movie is fairly paced which is good but I just couldn't get past the whole "How not to be an astronaut" factor in it.

Personal Rating: 6.0 (for amazing camera work and great visual effect)

About Time

IMDB gave this a 7.3 and I felt it might have been understated. Great movie to watch with your significant other, many feels. About a man who discovers an ability to go back into any moment in time of his own life. This movie, in my opinion, was excellent. Had good rounded elements and a good story to it. I highly recommend this movie to anyone that likes this kinda stuff. Can be considered pretty sappy for younger generations and/or single guys :P

Personal Rating: 9.0

Carrie (2013)

IMDB rating of 6.2 probably generous. This movie is a remake of the classic, which is fine, remakes are fine...however this movie had me wtf several times. It was fairly straight forward and the plot was fairly bland. The acting wasn't all that great either. This movie is good for a once over...if you are remotely interested in this kind of movie.

Personal Rating: 5.0

Desolation of Smaug

Imdb gave this a 8.2. Probably right on the money. The movie was decent, it kept pace. I honestly liked the first one better not really sure why. Without doing any research on where the 3 movies are cut I was sadly disappointed on where it did. The cut did make sense in the order of events. Also Kate from Lost was an elf in the movie, that was a pleasant surprise. Wife and I were tilting our head trying to figure that one out.

Personal Rating 8.0

Don Jon

IMDB puts it at a 6.9 probably generous. This movie, in my opinion, was a waste of time. I don't even recommend it, seems like an incredible waste of talent. Ear cringing New Jersey accents, constant titty shots and an comparable asshole syndrome throughout this entire movie. There are alot of great actors/tresses in this movie but again it just wasn't worth the time. I kept expecting like this life altering epiphany or tragic thing to happen. It kinda really didn't. If you were to summon this up. Guy meets porn, guy meets hot chick, guy still meets porn, guy meets old chick, guy quits porn. This, in my opinion, isn't even worth the first watch through.

Personal Rating 3.0

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones

IMDB puts this at a 6.0 probably generous. Movie was chalked full of unexplained things, a loose story and no clear ending. Thank you for a book to movie adaptation that was awful. When I have to look up explanations as to wtf happened in a movie on a third party site on the internet there is something obviously wrong with it. Not one or two things...pretty much the entire movie. When I first saw the trailer for this movie I wanted to watch it so bad, it looked absolutely amazing, then watching the movie was a huge disappointment. It's watchable...barely.

Personal Rating: 5.0

7E

IMDB gave this a generous 4.4. I do not recommend watching this waste of time of a film. I don't even think I paid attention to the whole thing. Story was bad, acting was bad. When you have to put the only known actress in the movie on the top of the cast list and she only had about 3 minutes of total face time in the movie this would be a clear indicator of awful.

Personal Rating: 1.0

Bad Grandpa

IMDB puts this at a 6.8. Now this is one of those movies where you don't go into it expecting a masterpiece. Most Will Ferrell/Adam Sandler movies come out this way so I definitely went in with a clear mind of knowing it wasn't going to be great so these kind of movies go on a different scale. Most of the jokes in the movie were unexpected and pretty funny. This movie is definitely not for everyone for the reasons mentioned above. If you don't want to waste your time and you are looking for a good movie this one definitely isn't for you. Movie has alot of shock value and inappropriateness is through the roof.

Personal Rating: 7.0 (on the badness scale)

The Croods

IMDB rating of 7.3 probably accurate. Movie was great for my 3 year old who couldn't stop laughing at it. My 15 month old also watched it from start to finish. Alot of color in the movie and the comedy is still good for adults. Was definitely a keeper as nothing tends to keep the attention of my 3 year old.

Personal Rating: 8.0

Despicable Me 2

IMDB rating of 7.6 probably accurate. An extension from the first one. As an adult plot line was easily guessed but what do you expect out of a childs film. It wasn't as kid centric which I didn't necessarily like. It was more centered around Gru. I think the first one might have been overall better than the second one but it was still enjoyable.

Personal Rating: 7.0

Edit: I apparently watch alot of movies :-|

Movie: The Italian Job (2003)

Opinion: I've gotten into the habit of playing a movie on my Kindle Fire HDX as I go to bed. Last night I decided to put on The Italian Job, a light escapist film that was entertaining enough to keep me awake until the end. I've seen it before, but never had the chance to watch it completely from beginning to end. The cast of the film mesh well together, and Edward Norton played the arrogant villain role nicely. If you've never seen it before and care to check it out, it is currently free to stream for Amazon Prime members.

Watched Despicable me 2 with my wife and we had a great laugh while doing it. Not the best movie out there but if you have couple hours of spare time and like animation movies definitely give it ago. Also watch the first one first!

I liked the first one better...I guess it was the whole "kids" factor in it. It was about the kids!

Riddick

IMDB gave this a 6.8 which is probably fair. The movie wasn't terrible but it wasn't very good either. I think the acting from the nerd legendary Katee Sackhoff was extremely lacking, she just wasn't that great...I was disappoint. The story ties together the first and second movie together and leaves it open for a 4th movie. Honestly the movies are just not getting better. Alot of emphasis on riddick's eyes in this one. I don't know...normal vin diesel action flick and the story was alright.

Personal Rating 6.0

im so sorry for the double post...

Katee Sackhoff is a pretty bad actress all around. I thought she was terrible in BSG and one of the worst parts of the series. I think the fact that she's the tough "every woman" type is what made people THINK they liked her in BSG lol. Her acting is AWFUL though.

You know you say that and I look back at it and I agree....I've only ever seen her in 2 things now and she has acting skills on par with Kristen Stewart

SirAlexLaw, I completely agree with your review of Gravity. No idea how it got rated so highly on RottenTomatoes!

Her

IMDB rated 8.6. I'll admit I've been looking forward to this movie for about as long as I have known about it. Finally got to see it (I missed the early showings of it in 2013), and I was amazed! Very, very well written, beautiful cinematography and use of color tones, great pacing, great acting, and great content. I really miss seeing movies like this. This movie poses valid questions about relationships, acceptance, hardship, sex, and self-worth. I can honestly babble about this movie all day and talk about what it's biggest message is, but there's a lot more to it than that. All I can say is, go see it. Very worth the price of admission, and a good movie to take the significant other to (provided they can handle adult content).

9/10: This movie has a lot to say, so sit down and listen!

I saw "I, Frankenstein" recently. I was expecting to be disappointed, but it actually didn't seem that bad for what it was. Take that with a grain of salt of course, my movie tastes can be somewhat contrary to the popular opinion. I often hate what everyone else raves about, and like what others find pretty bad sometimes.
It's basically a superhero movie with Frankenstein's monster and some supernatural creatures involved. The premise feels like it would fit a comic book as well. I like characters such as that, and I like comic book movies, so it felt fun to me. If you are prone to analyzing or picking apart plot and such, I'd avoid it, but if you can relax and watch things go boom for a while it could be entertaining. I was also refreshed by the relative lack of a formulaic love interest (I hope that is not a spoiler).

I usually watch a movie when I am about to get to bed. If it is bad I fall asleep if it is good I watch and then go to sleep  ;)  Good way for me to judge a movie.
I will mention 2 movies for now. Apocalypto (2006) and 9 (2009).

Apocalypto (2006)
An amazing movie with how horrible and cruel the world can be but also how life comes back. It is an intense and gripping story and I must say it was just awesome. I am pretty picky when it comes to movies but this one had me nailed down in the couch for the whole duration. The acting is really good and the scenery and all is just great.

Personal ratingstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.png

9 (2009)
A bit of a different movie and for me it is a good movie. It does have a very good message and also shows how wrong the society can go.
It is somewhat different seeing ragdolls as characters in the movie but they fit nicely and are well animated. Story is well written and the visiuals are good. You may recognize the main characters voice from another small figure.
