I just spent a bit of time doing this just now. Once I got started I couldn't stop!

Firstly the fleet list;

Sorry S.A.S Daedalus if it's not to your liking!  :ph34r:

...and then I went through and made a form to enter the data easily!

The form is in beta stage, definitely still needs bug-testing, but woohoo!

Form is finished, I'm reasonably happy with it.

Notice; While it *can* be resorted to Alphabetical quite easily, doing so will break the script which automatically adds form responses. To organise it alphabetically (or any other way), everyone would either need to repeat the form information (ie the 150 odd users already whom have inputted their ship info) or the scripting be scrapped entirely. Neither is a great option imo.

My google-docs-fu is running low and it's getting late here.

I'm trying to set up cells such that they check the form response spreadsheet and enact a 1 or "" in the cell based on whether it contains text matching the top of the column.

ie, Joe Bloggs has an Aurora ES and a Scythe, when he completes the form, he sees his name on the fleet list with a '1' in the Aurora ES column and a '1' in the Scythe column.

Any ideas?

Update: Found a formula that works.

=If(Isnumber(search(F$3, 'Form Responses 2'!$D3)),1,"")

Where F3 is the cell containing the ship information (Aurora ES, F7C Hornet, etc) and 'Form Responses 2'!$D3' (ie, D3 on the next page) is the information the user has filled in.

Looks great.  Readability might be improved a tiny bit if the columns were even/odd shaded, but you could make the same argument about the rows, and you can just click on the column/row and have it highlighted, so I think I've talked myself out of it mattering.  I really like the company groupings, I don't think I've seen it laid out so clearly before.

Removed both - I intentionally had stayed away from the solid lines because I hated the "In-your-face" effect it gave effect, the dotted lines seemed to be a good trade off, but I've just made them all blank now ;)

It's like @Lutra says, it's easy enough just to select the row with your name on. The first column should be frozen to allow users to scroll through without forgetting who they are anyway.

Updated first post with links - pretty happy with the product at the moment.

Looks great man! Thanks for setting this up. Let's get with Daedalus and set these up in a more prominent way (I'll sticky an official thread for it).

If you get new ships in anyway, please just edit your original response to the form when possible.

Ncfbn input his/her ships in manually and broke the formatting -_-

;)

Clarification; If you haven't got details on there already (ctrl+F says you don't :P) then the form will add it automatically.

For anyone that does have a username+ships already on there, this is where it gets tricky.

A ) Users manually inputted their details (pre-form days)

In this case, the user can simply add their new ship by adding the 1 in the appropriate cell. No dramas.

B ) Users filled in the form and bought a new ship

This one requires the user to either;
a ) edit their original form response (which is definitely possible.)
OR
b ) go to the second sheet of the spreadsheet and input the correct title of the ship as it appears on the first page.

I'd like to put error handling in there, such that existing users can submit a new form and have the spreadsheet update next to their name, but I simply don't have the time (or knowledge, and hence the time to research) to give at the moment.

Eep!

Didn't read the whole thread before submitting the form with my current tally, having already manually (I think) added my Freelancer some time ago.  Hope I didn't mess it up for you!

Hey man, you may want to update it for the Freelancer variants! I'm curious homy many people changed them over.

Looks great otherwise!

Updated!

Current issues;

Everytime a new user adds information to the sheet, it bumps the auto-completion function down a row, which then screws up anyone putting the information in via the form. I don't know how to fix this, any suggestions?
